UA Online Scholarships

Scholarships are awarded to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in UA Online degree programs or New College LifeTrack.

Application Guidelines

The 2025–2026 UA Online scholarship application opens on March 1, 2025. For priority consideration for Fall 2025/Spring 2026 awards, please apply by June 1, 2025.

Application period for 2025–2026 UA Online scholarships: 

  • Fall 2025 Applications – March 1 – May 31 
  • Spring/Summer 2026 Applications – August 6 – October 15  

To be considered for all UA Online scholarships, you must submit a scholarship application each semester and be currently enrolled or admitted to the University before applying. Students can only receive one scholarship per academic year, unless receiving a renewable award. UA online scholarships can only be used during the academic year it was awarded.  

The application is submitted online through myBama. To access the application, log in and select Admissions/Scholarships and navigate to the Scholarships section. Under the All Graduate/Undergraduate Students subheading, select the Alabama Scholarship Award Manager link. 

Award notifications will be sent to your Crimson email according to the following schedule:  

  • Fall 2025 award notices will be sent late July 2025 
  • Spring/Summer 2026 award notices will be sent in late November 2025 

Tips for submitting a successful application: 

  • Complete the application in its entirety 
  • If you cannot answer a question, type “N/A”. 
  • For your statement of purpose, tell your story. Include details of your academic journey and what motivates you to pursue higher education, any personal challenges you’ve overcome, your educational and career goals and how receiving this scholarship will help you achieve them. 
  • Take time to proofread your application to ensure clarity and accuracy. 

Scholarships

Review the eligibility criteria for each scholarship. Special Category scholarships (indicated with an asterisk) require supporting documentation of applicable company or organization affiliation. Acceptable forms of documentation may include an employee ID or written certification on company letterhead. Email supporting documents to online@ua.edu.

Robert M. and Muriel R. Barksdale Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate student who graduated from a high school in West Alabama and demonstrates satisfactory academic progress.

Dorothy D. and John J. Boyne Endowed Support Funds

This scholarship is awarded to a UA junior or senior undergraduate student pursuing a degree in a public service area. The applicant must demonstrate leadership qualities and academic excellence with a minimum 3.0 GPA at the time of application and be a resident of Alabama.

William E. Bright Endowment for the Support of Natural Gas Programs (ANGA)*

Applicant must be a full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate student who is an employee or the dependent of an employee of a member company of the Alabama Natural Gas Association. Applicant must be a resident of Alabama, demonstrate academic excellence and exhibit outstanding leadership qualities. Demonstration of financial need, although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines, may also be a consideration for this award. Supporting documentation is required.

The Campbell–Ellis Endowed Scholarship

Applicant must be a UA undergraduate or graduate student and working full-time or part-time while in school. Preference will be given to students who have completed at least 12 credit hours and have earned a 3.0 GPA or higher. Demonstration of financial need, although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines, may also be a consideration for this award.

James C. Caldwell Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate student. Priority of consideration will be given to applicants from Winston and Marion counties. Demonstration of financial need, although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines, may also be a consideration for the award.

General Charles G. Cleveland/Maxwell Air Force Base Endowed Scholarship*

Priority of consideration will be given to graduate military students pursuing a degree in military history. Second consideration will be given to students pursuing a doctorate in public administration. Applicant must be in good academic standing and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Preference will be given to applicants stationed or employed at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama. Supporting documentation is required.

Carolyn and Dennis Dahl Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate student who exhibits academic excellence. Applicant must demonstrate financial need, although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines.

The Catherine Horton Eisen CPA, BS 1978 and Dr. Stefan Eisen Jr. Col. (Ret.) USAF, DPA 2003 Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a student enrolled in a field of study that benefits the autism community. Majors/programs may include, but are not limited to, special education, pre-occupational therapy and pre-physical therapy. The recipient must have demonstrated an interest in applying their skills in service to the autism community upon graduation. Priority of consideration shall be given to UA undergraduate students who are considered first-generation college students and who are applying to college later in life. The second priority of consideration shall be given to students applying to college later in life who are enrolled in fields of study that benefit the autism community.

Gladys M. Fernandez Endowed Scholarship for Single Parents

This scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student. Priority of consideration will be given to students who are single parents and have primary responsibility for the care of a child under the age of 18.

The Gadsden Center Quasi-Endowed Scholarship

Priority consideration will be given to students enrolled in New College LifeTrack.

Connie G. Glaze Memorial Endowed Scholarship*

Applicant must be a support staff member (clerical) of the Office of Teaching Innovation and Digital Education, working a minimum of 25 hours per week. The recipient must be a full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate student. Supporting documentation is required.

The Bobbie and Warren Goldstein Endowed Scholarship

Priority consideration will be given to students enrolled in programs with concentrations in science or health-related fields, with a minimum 3.0 GPA, and who do not otherwise qualify for academic scholarships.

Thomas S. Graves Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate student, with a priority of consideration given to students enrolled in a degree program facilitated through UA Online. The second priority of consideration will be given to applicants in any other academic division. Applicant must be an Alabama resident who demonstrates academic excellence and has earned a minimum 3.0 GPA, majoring in a science-based curriculum. This scholarship is merit-based; financial need is not required. Priority will be given to residents from Etowah and Cherokee counties.

Lee Allen and Mary Nell Hallman Endowed Scholarship

Priority of consideration is given to distance learning students, pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees. Preference will be given to applicants who are military veterans.

Joel D. Hammond/Big River Inc. Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to UA students enrolled in New College LifeTrack. The second priority of consideration will be given to students pursuing degrees facilitated through UA Online.

Mark Harry Harrison Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a UA undergraduate student who is enrolled in a degree program facilitated through UA Online. Preference will be given to applicants who attended a high school in the state of Georgia.

Jack and Audrey Hatmaker Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a UA undergraduate or graduate student who is a resident of the state of Alabama and is pursuing a business degree program facilitated through UA Online.

Kay H. Hodges Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a UA undergraduate or graduate student who is enrolled or accepted for admission to a nursing degree program. Priority of consideration will be given to students from Cobb County, Georgia, and Etowah and Tallapoosa counties in the state of Alabama. Applicant must demonstrate financial need, although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines.

James A. Hood Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship — celebrating the accomplishments of James A. Hood, one of the first African American men to enroll at The University of Alabama — is awarded to a full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate student. Priority of consideration shall be given to Alabama residents who graduated from the state’s public school system. The student should be pursuing a degree program facilitated through UA Online and work as a teacher or school administrator.

Elizabeth B. and Ronald C. Howard Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a full-time or part-time undergraduate student who is enrolled in New College LifeTrack. Preference will be given to students who have completed at least 12 credit hours of graded work under the auspices of New College LifeTrack and have a 2.0 GPA or higher. Demonstration of financial need, although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines, may also be a consideration for the award.

The Samuel Howard Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund

This scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate or graduate nursing student who is enrolled in courses facilitated through UA Online.

Alisa Barr Johnson Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate or graduate nursing student who is enrolled in courses facilitated through UA Online, who demonstrate academic achievement and financial need, although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines.

Jerold Kennedy Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate student.

King-Blackburn Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to UA undergraduate or graduate students who graduated from high school in Baldwin, Mobile, Escambia or adjacent counties in the state of Alabama. Priority consideration will be given to students who incurred hardships as a result of hurricanes or other natural disasters. Applicants must be in good academic standing with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Second priority is given to graduate or undergraduate students enrolled in good standing in the UA online nursing program. Third priority is given to any DL student.

William and Sybil Landau Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to students who are currently enrolled in or accepted for admission to New College LifeTrack and are in good academic standing. Priority of consideration will be given to adult students from Jefferson County, Alabama. The second priority of consideration will be given to students in other counties within the state of Alabama. The third priority of consideration will be given to students residing outside the state of Alabama.

Robert Ross MacDonald Memorial Endowed Scholarship*

This scholarship is awarded to a full-time or part-time undergraduate student with a 2.5 GPA or higher. Priority of consideration will be given to Alabama residents from families involved directly in the trucking industry who demonstrate financial need, although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines. The second priority of consideration will be given to applicants from families in businesses that indirectly support the trucking industry. This scholarship is renewable annually, contingent upon satisfactory progress. Supporting documentation is required.

Eber Mann Memorial Endowed Scholarship*

This scholarship is awarded to a full-time undergraduate student, with a priority of consideration given to students from Winston or surrounding counties in Alabama, whose high school academic records, college entrance exam results or character indicate a reasonable probability of success. Demonstration of financial need, although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines, may also be a consideration for the award. This scholarship is renewable for four years, contingent upon satisfactory progress. Supporting documentation may be required.

Military Service Member and Family Endowed Support Fund

This scholarship is awarded to a full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate student who is an active military service member, honorably discharged military veteran, or dependent of a military service member.

New College LifeTrack Society Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to students enrolled in the New College LifeTrack program who are in good academic standing and demonstrate financial need, although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines.

John Cook Nichols Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a UA undergraduate or graduate student who exhibits academic excellence. Applicant must demonstrate financial need, although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines.

Osher Reentry Scholarship Endowment

Priority of consideration is given to undergraduate students pursuing their first baccalaureate degree, who have experienced a cumulative gap in their education of five or more years, anticipate participation in the workforce for a significant time after graduation, demonstrate financial need, although not necessarily need as defined by federal guidelines, and demonstrate academic promise and a commitment to obtaining a degree. Returning Osher Reentry Scholars are given preference.

Clarice L. Parker Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate student who is an Alabama resident with at least a 3.0 GPA or higher. Priority of consideration will be given to students from Tuscaloosa County. Applicant must demonstrate financial, although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines.

Mary Lois and H. Harrison Parrish Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student who is pursuing a degree in nursing. Applicant must demonstrate financial need and be a resident of Alabama.

Douglas W. Patterson Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Priority of consideration is given to an undergraduate or graduate student who is a graduate of Monroe County High School in Monroeville, Alabama. In the absence of qualified graduates from Monroe County High School, graduates of high schools in Jefferson County, Alabama, have preference.

William Henry Rhea Jr. Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate student who is a resident of the state of Alabama. Applicant must exhibit academic excellence, have earned a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to students who are majoring in engineering or business.

John H. Sellers Sr. Memorial Endowed Scholarship*

This scholarship is awarded to a full-time or part-time undergraduate student who is in good academic standing and a resident of Alabama. Priority of consideration will be given to high school graduates who were affiliated with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Birmingham, Alabama, and were little brothers or little sisters. The second priority of consideration will be given to students who participated in Big Brothers Big Sisters in surrounding cities. The third priority of consideration will be given to a student enrolled in a degree program facilitated through UA Online. Applicant must demonstrate financial need, although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines. Supporting documentation is required.

The Ruth Davis Smith Endowed Scholarship

Priority of consideration will be given to undergraduate or graduate students who exhibit academic excellence. Applicant must demonstrate financial need, although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines.

John C. Snider Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate student who demonstrates satisfactory academic progress.

Tate Thomas and Mary B. Strickland Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate student who is a resident of Alabama. A minimum 2.5 GPA is required for consideration and the applicant must demonstrate financial need.

Hershel Trimm Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate student who is a resident of Alabama. The awardee must have earned a minimum 3.0 GPA and be enrolled in one course administered through UA Online during the semester in which the award is received. Priority of consideration will be given to a student pursuing a degree in a home-building field.

Warrior Roofing/Thomas G. Shurett Memorial Endowed Scholarship*

This scholarship is awarded to a full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate student. Priority of consideration will be given to employees and dependents of employees of Warrior Roofing Company Inc. who are pursuing their education at UA. The second priority of consideration may be given to a deserving student from West Alabama enrolled in a degree program facilitated through UA Online. Supporting documentation is required. This scholarship is renewable annually, contingent upon satisfactory progress.

Robert L. Williamson Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate student who is majoring in engineering or business. Applicant must demonstrate financial need and academic excellence with a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Jerry F. Wilson Sr. Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate student.

Judith H. Wilson Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a full-time or part-time undergraduate student who is pursuing a degree in nursing. Priority of consideration will be given to students from Marion and Winston counties in Alabama.
