Bachelor of Social Work

This 120-credit-hour program consists of online coursework, in-person field education and occasional weekend skills labs held at regional locations across Alabama. Research-based curriculum helps develop the knowledge necessary for you to effectively serve clients of all ages in areas such as medical and public health, mental health, substance abuse counseling, or school and family settings. It is identical to the degree earned on campus, so graduates are well-equipped to begin their social work careers.

Master of Social Work

The MSW can be completed through one of two distance learning options. The 42-credit-hour Advanced-Standing program is for students who already hold a CSWE-accredited BSW, and it can be completed in as little as three semesters. The 60-credit-hour program is for all other students, and it can be completed in as little as two years. Both programs offer full- or part-time study options. Coursework is primarily online with skills labs held on select Saturdays at regional locations in the Southeast, as well as in-person field placements convenient to your location.

Doctor of Social Work

The DSW consists of 45 credit hours and can be completed in as little as three years of full-time study, including primarily online coursework and summer residencies on campus in Tuscaloosa. This highly selective, cohort-based program offers two tracks, depending on student career goals. The clinical track equips graduates for specialized practice and the organizational leadership track prepares graduates for public and nonprofit agency management or administrative leadership. Both options can lead to a career path in educating future social workers.
