Become an Efficient and Effective Leader in Sport Management
Courses are offered online and can be completed from wherever you live. You will learn leadership, motivation, communication and organization skills that can help you run a successful athletic program. You will also study legal issues and risk management, fundraising and development, marketing and finance, and social-cultural issues applicable to sports and interscholastic athletics.
Tuition is offered at the same affordable rate, regardless of residency.

Curriculum
The MA in Kinesiology (Sport Management Teacher Certification) degree program consists of 30-33 credit hours. In addition to the required courses in sport management, finance, marketing, critical best practices and research, students complete a practicum and an internship. Please note that courses are subject to change.

- Foundations course
- Special education survey course (if not previously completed)
In order to receive Alabama Class A Sport Management P-12 certification, individuals must hold Alabama Class B certification and complete the course requirements including a minimum of 300 clock-hours of supervised internship/practicum with at least half the time in one or more P-12 school settings. Additionally, students must pass a comprehensive exam.
Admission
Admission to the MA program requires the following:
- Hold a current teaching certification – Class B or higher-level professional education certification or equivalent
- Minimum score of 300 on the GRE or 50th percentile on the MAT*
- Two years of full-time acceptable educational work experience
*Test scores are waived for Summer 2021 and Fall 2021 semester applications.
A completed application includes official transcripts from all institutions attended, three letters of recommendation, a statement of purpose, official test scores, and a Graduate School application.
Applications are accepted each semester. Students may begin the program during the fall, spring or summer semester.
If you reside or intend to seek professional licensure outside of the state of Alabama, please review the requirements for that state prior to applying to this program.
Does this program require prior certification for admission?
Yes, students must hold a current teaching certification to be admitted (Class B or higher-level professional education certification or equivalent).
Is work experience required to apply for this program?
Yes, you must have two years of full-time educational work experience to apply for the program.
Who teaches the courses?
The same professors who teach on-campus courses teach the online courses.
What job opportunities are available after completing this program?
Many students in the program become athletic directors or head coaches. Students also use the program to gain more knowledge on running an effective athletic program.
