This degree program is offered completely online to allow you to take classes while meeting the rest of life’s demands. You’ll be taught by the same distinguished UA faculty members who teach on campus, many who have also achieved success in their respective fields.

This program is designed for those interested in pursuing careers in sectors including government, communication, and consumer and human services. Shape the path for your degree with a bachelor’s in Human Environmental Sciences.

Curriculum

The purpose of this program is to give the student with specific career goals an opportunity to develop an innovative program of study with a focus on at least one area within the College. Please note that courses are subject to change.

Each student majoring in HES is expected to file a program of study prior to the completion of 100 hours and in accordance with the following guidelines:

  • The proposed course of study must include 120 hours, including the statewide general studies requirements, The University of Alabama Core Curriculum requirements, and the College of Human Environmental Sciences core.
  • The proposed course of study must give evidence that the student has built a cohesive structure of interrelated ideas around a focus within the College of Human Environmental Sciences and must include a minimum of 35 hours of coursework offered by the College of Human Environmental Sciences.
  • At the time of submission, the proposal must include a statement of approval by a faculty advisor chosen from the area of specialization.
  • The proposal must indicate that the student has examined the relationship of the proposed program to his or her career goals and post-graduation plans.

Admission

To apply for formal admission to any of the undergraduate degree programs offered through Bama By Distance, you must complete an admissions application and submit transcripts from all colleges previously attended (and a high school transcript if you have less than 24 semester hours of college coursework. Transfer students considering admission should review UA’s transfer information and policies.

Applicants must meet one of the following admission requirements:

  • If you have earned more than 24 college-level credit hours at the time of your application to the University, you will need to meet the transfer student admission requirement of a minimum 2.0 overall college GPA.
  • If you have earned less than 24 college-level credit hours at the time of your application to the University, you will need to meet both the 2.0 overall college GPA required for transfer students, as well as Admission Requirements for Freshmen Students.  If high school graduation was more than four years ago, ACT/SAT scores are not required.
