Prepare to shape the future for young children enrolled in Head Start agencies by earning your degree online from The University of Alabama.

By earning your Bachelor of Science in Human Environmental Sciences, Human Development & Family Studies (Child Development Practitioner), you will focus on developing your knowledge and skill sets within the area of childcare. This program is solely for those who work in Head Start agencies.

Through your coursework, you will gain an understanding of the growth and development of children from birth to eight years of age and be able to guide them through one of the most important developmental stages. You can develop a better understanding of the parent/child relationship, as well as the physical, social, emotional and cognitive development of young children. You will be taught how to design, implement and evaluate programs for children in preschool programs. The knowledge and skills you gain through this program prepare you to teach children and families to solve life problems and successfully interact with others.

A unique feature of the Child Development Practitioner program is that you can apply for prior learning credit, which allows your work experience to count toward your degree.

If you are not currently working or planning to work in a Head Start agency, you may consider the Early Child Development Concentration, which is available to those interested in the Early Childhood field, but not limited to those who work at a Head Start agency.
