Student Identity Verification Process
The University of Alabama provides each individual who applies to the University, including those who apply to distance learning programs, with a secure Bama ID and password that is required to access UA's MyBama student portal. Through this portal students access information that includes, but is not limited to schedules, financial aid awards, grades, tuition costs, and BlackBoard Learn, the learning management system which houses course content.
The University of Alabama has established, and will periodically evaluate, its process to confirm that a person who is enrolling in the University is the person who is completing the enrollment form, that a student taking an examination is the student who registered to take the examination, and that the student who is registered for an online course is the same student who participates in, completes, and receives credit for the course. To authenticate identities, The University of Alabama will use one or more of the following methods for verification:
- A secure login with user name and password.
- Proctored examinations – see proctoring policy for specific information on the process used to verify student identity.
Third party vendors that provide robust identity verification software services could be used as an option by the University.
The University of Alabama does not charge students a proctoring fee when examinations for distance learning courses are taken on campus. Bama By Distance Student Services in the College of Continuing Studies maintains information for proctoring charges for students. Students must be notified in writing at the time of registration or enrollment of any fees associated with the verification of student identity.
