MA in Secondary Education (Reading Specialist Certification)

Foster a love of literature and reading in your classroom. Earn your master's in Secondary Education (Reading Specialist P-12 Certification) from UA's College of Education and gain skills you can immediately apply to help the struggling readers in your class.

MA or EdS in Secondary Education (Science Certification) *

This program provides science teachers with the tools they need to increase their knowledge and apply that expertise to the classroom. Graduates will be eligible for master's level certification in biology, chemistry, physics or general science.

MA in Secondary Education (English Language Arts Certification)

In this 100% online master's degree program, you will explore how to create stimulating and challenging environments that engage students in the active processes of language use and learning.

MA in Secondary Education (English for Speakers of Other Languages Certification)

Learn how to break down language barriers for English language learners with The University of Alabama's 100% online master's with English for Speakers of Other Languages P-12 certification. This program equips you to reach students in your classroom or to transition to the role of ESL teacher or coach.

MA in Secondary Education (General Social Science Certification)

* Science teaching field courses are not offered by distance at UA. Up to 12 credit hours of graduate science courses in the teaching field may be transferred to the program from other institutions if they meet the following conditions: The teaching field graduate courses must be advisor-preapproved and from an NCATE-accredited institution of equivalent value, and the graduate courses must be within the certification subject teaching field

The Build on Bama tuition grant is for UA alumni or anyone who has been referred by a graduate of one of our online programs.

Bama Link

The Bama Link tuition grant is for faculty, staff and students of Alabama community colleges or other select out-of-state community colleges.

Back to Bama

The Back to Bama tuition grant is for former UA students who left UA more than a year ago without graduating.

For each grant, you must be in your first semester of one of our online programs and apply for the grant by the deadline, in addition to meeting the grant-specific requirements.

You Decide the Timeline

With few exceptions, our online degree programs are available in a work-at-your-own-pace format. Within each course, assignment deadlines vary, but you get to decide how many courses you want to take each semester to complete your degree. Undergraduate degree program completion times depend on how many hours you transfer in, but most students finish in three to six years. Most of our master’s programs can be completed in one to three years and doctoral programs in three to six years, according to your desired pace.
