Overview - Rural Health Scholars Program

Rural Health Scholars student

Explore the Medical Field While in High School

Rising high school seniors from rural Alabama can receive an introduction to the medical field at no cost to them through the Rural Health Scholars Program. For five weeks in the summer, selected students are granted the opportunity to experience college life by living on UA's campus and taking two courses, while participating in seminars and field trips.

Students will enroll in UA's Creative Writing (EN 200) and Introductory to Chemistry with a laboratory component (CH 104). These two courses will be completed at no risk, and if students earn at least a C, they will receive college credit. If not, any grade lower than a C will not be recorded on students' academic records and they will not be penalized.
