In response to the pressing need to educate a new generation of nurses, The University of Alabama has developed the MSN/EdD and EdD in Instructional Leadership for Nurse Educators. The interdisciplinary course of study offered in both programs prepares practicing nurses for faculty positions in colleges and universities. Courses are designed and taught collaboratively by Nursing and Education faculty to ensure that students develop the teaching skills, research base, curricular knowledge, and technological expertise needed by faculty in community college and university settings.
Because most students who enroll in the program work full time, coursework includes a combination of online and weekend classes.
The Master of Science in Nursing/Doctor of Education in Instructional Leadership for Nurse Educators program is designed for individuals who hold a BSN and wish to pursue both the MSN and the EdD. By pursuing both degrees simultaneously, students enroll in fewer credit hours and complete the program quicker than if they choose to pursue each degree independently. It is expected that a nurse with a BSN degree will be able to complete the coursework in three to four years of full-time study.
The Doctor of Education in Instructional Leadership for Nurse Educators is designed for students who currently hold an MSN. It is expected that students will be able to complete the coursework in two to three years of full-time study.
