The Special Education Collaborative program leads to a graduate degree and certification at the Alabama Class A level with endorsement in Collaborative (6-12).
The Special Education and Multiple Abilities faculty recognize special education as a dynamic field dedicated to the realization of human potential. It is the mission of the Special Education and Multiple Abilities Department to facilitate ideas and professional knowledge necessary to maximize learning opportunities for prospective practitioners and ultimately for children experiencing cognitive, social, behavioral, physical and/or multiple disabilities.
MA in Special Education
The master of arts degree program offers courses, following state guidelines, that lead to an Alabama Class A professional teaching certificate. A teacher graduating from the program will be certified to teach special education collaborative 6-12 students.
Students in the MA program can choose to take classes in Tuscaloosa or at The University of Alabama Gadsden Center. This convenient option meets the needs of educators seeking an advanced degre who live and work in West, Central, and North Alabama. Classes offered in Tuscaloosa as well as at UA's Gadsden Center are led by expereienced faculty members from the College of Education. Click here to see the curriculum.
Alternative MA in Special Education
The alternative master of arts degree leads to Alabama Class A professional teaching certification in special education collaborative 6-12 and is designed for those who do not currently hold a bachelor's degree in education. Click here to see the curriculum.
