A Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) is considered one of the broadest and most versatile engineering degrees available. Not only will it prepare you to design complex machines, but also you will be prepared for involvement in all aspects of the manufacture of products.
The University of Alabama BSME distance degree program gives you the opportunity to obtain an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering with minimal travel or job disruption. Lectures and coursework are delivered online, and labs are offered at three locations in the state of Alabama.
As a student you can train in the science of designing a component, a machine or a system in a process. BSME students pursue careers in many industries such as automotive, power generation, bioengineering, textiles, robotics, manufacturing, research and development, pulp and paper, steel and materials, petro-chemical and aerospace. Also, BSME graduates may pursue post-graduate learning in business, law, medicine, dentistry and other professions.
BSME distance courses comply with The University of Alabama semester calendar and are available in the fall, spring and summer terms. You may transfer credit from two and four-year institutions to The University of Alabama and complete the BSME degree. UA engineering courses can be taken via the Internet; however, three courses have on-campus lab requirements, which MUST be completed at the UA lab facility on the Dothan campus, UA Gadsden Center, or at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
The BSME degree earned in this format is rigorous and identical to the degree earned by on-campus students at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. You’ll receive the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to excel in a career that promises many challenges and great rewards!
