In order to become a Registered Dietitian you must complete a didactic program in dietetics (DPD), a dietetic internship (or supervised practice program), and then pass the RD exam. Read more about becoming a dietitian at www.eatright.org and then click on the “Student” tab.
The Food and Nutrition major here at UA satisfies part of the requirements that lead to the registered dietitian credential: a didactic program in dietetics, however you must apply to the didactic program. To enter into the didactic program in dietetics you must have completed a minimum of 60 hours, which includes a grade of a C- or better in NHM 101, 195, 201, and 253; CH 104 and 105; and BSC 215 and 216. You also must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.75 or higher and submit a DPD application form to the DPD director. In order to complete the didactic program and obtain a verification statement, you must maintain a 2.75 overall GPA or higher and make a B- or higher in all 300 and 400 level nutrition courses.
