Description : The mission of the Department of Criminal Justice is to develop and disseminate knowledge about crime, criminal justice, deviance, and social organization through research, teaching, and service to the community. Grounded in the social sciences, the Department respects liberal values, encourages open-mindedness, and pursues in its program both demographic and curricular diversity.

Criminal Justice majors can choose from a broad range of career opportunities. At the local, state and federal levels, criminal justice majors are employed as law enforcement officials, investigators for courts and other agencies, correctional, probation and parole officers, and security specialists. They are also employed in the juvenille justice system and in drug and alcohol treatment facilities. Career opportunities exist in the private sector as investigators and security specialists.
