BS in Human Environmental Sciences (HES), Restaurant, Hotel, and Meetings Management major

The Restaurant, Hotel, and Meetings Management (RHM) Program at The University of Alabama was established in 1985 as part of the Department of Human Nutrition and Hospitality Management, College of Human Environmental Sciences. Over six-hundred students have graduated from the RHM program and are employed in a variety of hospitality management positions throughout the United States. Over 200 students are currently enrolled in the on-campus program and over 170 students are taking courses online.  The entire RHM curriculum is available online.

As part of the curriculum students must complete 120 hours of coursework and complete a 1000 hour practicum or a 480-600 hour internship in hospitality management in approved hospitality organizations around the globe.
Worldwide the hospitality and tourism industry represents annual expenditures of over $2 trillion.  The U.S. Department of Labor Statistics projects a 47% increase in the demand for food service managers over the next few years, and the need for hotel managers is expected to exceed the demand for all occupations in general.

Graduates from the Restaurant, Hotel and Meetings Management Program generally enter the field as management trainees, assistant managers, or supervisors.  The potential for advancement is excellent for dedicated individuals.  Opportunities exist within large corporations or entrepreneurs can launch their own businesses.
